Funeral services for Gladys Symm, 90, of Serbin, are scheduled for 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Serbin with Rev. John Schmidt officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Gladys Irene (Oltmann) Symm was born on April 7, 1927 in Serbin to Wilhelm “Willie” and Alma (Tietjen) Oltmann. She married Victor Otis Symm on June 20, 1944. She worked for the Lee County Peanut Company and City Meat Market in Giddings. Gladys was a lifelong and active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where she had taught Sunday school and was a member of the Ladies Aid. Gladys is survived by her four children, Harvey Symm and his wife, Josie of Austin, Karen Symm of Coeur D’Alene, Idaho, Michael Symm and his wife, Barbara of Serbin and Rev. David Symm and his wife, Tina of Lariat; 10 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; one sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Richard Lewis of Wolfe City; one sister-in-law, Grace Hataway of Northport, Ala.; as well as several nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to the St. Paul Lutheran Church Building Fund, The Lutheran Hour, or Hospice Brazos Valley. Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings is in charge of arrangements.
