Corrine Violet (Ruether) Lehmann

Corrine Violet (Ruether) Lehmann, 88, of La Grange passed away Sunday, July 23, 2017. Corrine was born in Haw Creek, Texas on Dec. 6, 1928, the daughter of Henry and Stella (Wunderlich) Neumann. She married Arno Ruether on May 22, 1948. After the death of her first husband, Arno in 1994, she married Quintus Lehmann in 1997. Corrine raised three children while helping her husband, Arno, operate their grocery store, Ruether’s Grocery. She also sold Avon for 40 years and belonged to the President’s Club for many years. Corrine and Arno loved to socialize, whether it was going out with friends, bowling leagues, playing dominoes, or dinner parties. She enjoyed playing bridge with various bridge clubs. Her passion was dancing. She and Arno attended dances on a regular basis. They also belonged to square dancing clubs, the Polka Lovers Klub of America, and to the Swiss Alp Dance Club for many years. Over the years, Corrine volunteered at St. Mark’s Hospital, AMEN, Second Chance Emporium and was active at the Sons of Hermann Lodge. She donated to a lot of charities over the years. Corrine was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and sold buddy poppies for several years. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Rutersville for over 60 years. She and Quintus shared a liking for social activities. They loved to travel to such places as Canada, Alaska and Las Vegas. Corrine is survived by two sons: Arno Ruether, Jr. and wife, Lois, of Richmond; Roger Ruether and wife, Sharon, of Austin; daughter, Linda Newnom of Katy; sister, Margie Simmons of Providence, RI; brother, Elmond Neumann of Killeen; five grandchildren: Shawn Story and wife, Jennifer; Matt Ruether; Keith Ruether; Cody Newnom and fiancé, Christina Nelson; and Teresa Leonard and husband, James; four great grandchildren: Shawn Ryan Story and wife, Cassie; Tristan Story; Gabriel Story and Vincent Ruether; sister-in-law, Dorothy Neumann of Laredo; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friend, Delvin Zinglemann. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arno Ruether; second husband, Quintus Lehmann; two sisters: Virginia Kruse and Junelle Blankenburg; brother, Henry Neumann, Jr.; sister-in-law, Esther Neumann; two brothers- in-law: Johnny Kruse and Lawrence Blankenburg; and grandson, Chris Story. Visitation was held on Thursday, July 27, 2017 from 12 to 7 p.m. at Koenig & Strickland Funeral Home. Family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral Services were held at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 28, 2017. Burial followed at La Grange City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, American Lung Association, JDRF Diabetes Foundation or St. John Lutheran Church.
