Perception is Reality
A few years ago, there was a great debate on the internet about the color of a dress. The dress in question was seen by some as blue and black, while others saw it as white and gold. Impossible right? I remember going to the website and swearing that I saw it as blue and black. I then read posts from others who absolutely felt it was white and gold.
I took it a step further and looked up why there would be a discrepancy. Apparently, our eyes perceive colors not only as what they are, but what they are in relation to the surroundings and the lighting available. Added to that filters and Photoshop and you have a prescription for a disagreement – and it was a big one. There were people getting angry at one another, telling them they were idiots if they did not agree.
This week, there is another disagreement appearing on the internet. This time it involves not what you see, but what you hear. There is an audio recording that some are swearing is the word “laurel” while others are convinced it is the word “yanny.”
