Cherished Memories From Local Little League

In the recent article about the Little League Champions in 1968, I would like to thank Daniel Kollaja for bringing back old memories. I was one of the younger guys on that team and couldn’t believe that I got selected to play with the older group. I was very shy and sensitive. Anybody who knew these guys in that picture will attest that they turned out to be good, and successful.

We weren’t perfect but were never in any notable trouble in the last 50 years.

But it wasn’t just our team, nearly all the players that played little league in those years turned out the same way. Of course, dedication starts at home with parents who took the time to help you succeed. The coaches helped get us to the next level and work as a team. A lot of parents in today’s time, sign up their children who may not even want to play.

Those same parents don’t take the time to show them the fundamentals or get someone else to help them, and still expect the coaches to make them excel, or play them all the time, not just the minimum innings. But the coaches only had us for 10 hours or less during each week for practice or games. Their job is to prepare the whole team, not necessarily spend more time on one player that does not practice on their own. A coach would stay later upon request to help an individual who really wanted to do better.
