Tempers Flare at the Most Recent La Grange City Council Meeting

La Grange Subway owner Tom Hudson’s fight with the City over advertising signs took a twist at the City Council meeting Monday night, March 25, and it almost got him arrested.

Hudson has been battling the Council ever since the City ordered him to remove a digital sign at his business three years ago. The City cited him twice since then for violating the sign ordinance. Hudson sued the City over the ordinance in 2017. That case is still working its way through the court system.

At Monday’s meeting, Hudson prodded the Mayor and City Manager about another sign the City took down: its own superior water sign. Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) rates public water systems as either “approved” or “superior.” La Grange, like many cities in Texas, advertised its rating with signs placed near the city limits.
