Fayette County Retired Teachers Meet in September

The Fayette County Retired Teachers’ Association met on Monday, Sept. 9 in the First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall with 36 members in attendance. President Melanie Mica welcomed all new members in attendance. Mica then called on Debbie Morrill to lead the pledges to the American and Texas flags. She thanked Nancy Pietsch for making the ice cream and the Executive Board for providing all other items.

Beverly Albers introduced guest speaker Charles Hebert, who is a docent at Monument Hill/Kreische Brewery State Historic Park in La Grange. His research into the Kreische family led him to write a book called “The Kreisches of Fayette County.” His story about the Kreisches took around three years of research. He stated that it is a 200 year journey and the story is still alive today. Two brothers, Heinrich and Karl Kreische were German immigrants who arrived in Galveston on Dec. 26, 1846 after 6-12 weeks of travel.
