Remember When?
April 11-15, 1967
The historic Stagecoach Inn and four other buildings in the restored Winedale complex were formally presented to The University of Texas on Saturday by Miss Ima Hogg of Houston. UT was urged to use the gift as a center for the study of history and culture of ethnic groups, principally the Germans, who migrated to Texas in the early 19th century. Miss Hogg termed the restoration of the historic structures, which took more than two years, as “a labor of love.” In her remarks, she said she hoped the complex would find much use as a laboratory for many facets of culture and art, as well as architecture. Principal speaker at the ceremony was Charles Van Rovenswaay, director of the Francis DuPont Winterthur Museum of Delaware. He said, “The true value of restored buildings like those at Winedale stand as biographies of the times and places that produced them.” Frank Erwin, chairman of the UT Board of Regents, formally accepted the gift and presented Miss Hogg with a resolution expressing gratitude for her interest in the UT program.
