Remember When?
June 23-30, 1967
An attempted theft of gasoline from a pump located at a package store/fruit and vegetable stand in the Whistleville community was nipped in the bud. The owner, Charlie Polasek, who resided with his family in the rear of the business three miles west of Flatonia on Hwy. 90, fired a number of buckshot blasts that scattered the would-be culprits in every direction and left their auto as full of holes as an Egyptian tank. Aroused from his sleep around 11 p.m., Sheriff T.J. Flournoy was told by Polasek’s daughter, “There’s shooting going on all around this place. Hurry!”
