United Evangelical Lutheran Church at Swiss Alp installed its 149th church council in 2016. Preparations are beginning for a large celebration in 2017 when the church will celebrate 150 years of offering God’s Word and Sacraments at Swiss Alp.

Festival season begins in La Grange, Texas. On Saturday, March 19, La Grange Main Street and Visitors Bureau will host the 4th annual “La Grange Uncorked” on the Fayette County Courthouse Square from 4 to 8 p.m.

The 21st Annual Winchester Domino Tournament was held Sunday, Feb. 21 at Zilss Hall. A fried chicken lunch was served as well, with proceeds going toward a new paint job for the hall. Pictured below are the winners of the tournament.

The La Grange VFW 5254 and Auxiliary met for their February meeting at the Post home. VFW Commander Dick Frenzel welcomed all present and Chaplain Glenn Altwein offered the meal prayer. The Post provided the meal and the Auxiliary provided desserts.

The Jr. Market Berkshire Barrow champion drive was held Sunday, Feb. 21, at the San Antonio Livestock Show & Rodeo. Lane Fritsch, from Fayetteville won Reserve Champion Berkshire barrow. Fritsch is 14 years old and a member of Fayetteville FFA. He said he began showing in 3rd grade.

Local fisherman Michael Bayer beat out 140 other fishermen at the Feb. 20 Kayak Angler Tournament Series stop at Fayette Lake. He won $2,160 for winning the title.

The Catholic Family Fraternal of Texas KJZT Society No. 23, sponsored the Young Neighbors In Action and Just Five Days chicken noodle soup and bake sale project. The rebate check from the head office was received just recently and presented to the youth.

Blaine Zapalac of Schulenburg had quite the showing at the 2016 San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo. In the Junior Dairy Show on Feb. 13 Blaine exhibited the Reserve Senior Champion Holstein and overall Reserve Grand Champion Holstein as well as the Reserve Junior Champion Holstein.
