About 84,000 showed up Saturday to watch the Ohio State football spring intrasquad football game.
That number would have been even higher if an entire level of the stadium wasn’t closed for renovations.

Former La Grange High School track standout Lauren Zbranek is now running for the college track team at Stephen F. Austin State University. Last week she competed at SFA’s home meet, the Carl Knight Invitational, placing 18th out of 28 runners in the 800 meters with a time of 2:30.62.

Perfect – again!
La Grange senior pitcher Darby Fitzpatrick hurled her second consecutive perfect game no-hitter, confounding Navasota hitters for five innings Friday in the Lady Leps 12-0 road victory. Fitzpatrick struck out nine and didn’t allow a single base runner.

The La Grange baseball team extended its winning streak to three games as the Leps downed Smithville 10-2 on the road Friday.
It was the Leps’ third win over Smithville this season. Travis Ferley bashed a home run and also hit a double to lead a 12-hit Leps offensive attack.

Tuesday was Cole Garlin’s first start on the mound this season.
It won’t be his last.
La Grange’s senior hurler took a perfect game into the sixth inning and left after six innings with a no-hitter intact as the Leps defeated Smithville 5-0 at home Tuesday.

How do you top Friday’s thrilling victory over Giddings?
Darby Fitzpatrick had a few ideas.
Four days after the epic comeback over Giddings in front of a capacity crowd, Fitzpatrick pitched a perfect game no-hitter and struck out 10 in a 13-0 victory over Smithville Tuesday.

The only thing blemishing an otherwise amazing start to the 2017 baseball team for La Grange had been Giddings.
Going into Friday’s game the Leps were 10-1-1 overall against all other teams and 0-2 against Giddings.

In 25 years of La Grange softball there has never been a regular season game with as much build-up as Friday’s game versus Giddings.
And the game lived up to every shred of that hype.
