Melvin Mitschke

Melvin Mitschke, 76, of Winchester, died unexpectedly Dec. 18, 2013 at Seton Medical Center in Austin. Melvin August Mitschke was born on March 2, 1937 in Winchester to Martin O. and Magdalena M. (Reinhardt) Mitschke. He was  baptized at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church on March 14, 1937 by Rev. Louis Trinklein and confirmed on Feb. 28, 1953 by Rev. Walter Streicher also at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church. He was a lifelong farmer and rancher and member of St. Michael’s Lutheran Church where he had been a usher and served on the finance committee for many years. He loved to go fishing and walking the land with his dogs, April and Bear. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013 at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Winchester. The Rev. Nate Hill officiated. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings was in charge of arrangements.
