Rita Sylvia Senna Jacob Markwardt (MoMo), 94, died on Jan. 23, 2014 while hospitalized at Christus Santa Rosa in
New Braunfels. Rita Sylvia Senna Jacob Markwardt (MoMo) was born on June 15, 1919 to Helena Schach Jacob and Emil Jacob at the family home near Round Top. Rita was Baptized on Christmas Day, 1919 by Pastor A. H. Falkenberg at the family home. She was confirmed on May 27, 1934 by Pastor Walter Kralik at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Round Top. On Nov. 30, 1939 she married her sweetheart Roland (Ruff) Markwardt at the Jacob family home with Pastor Kralik officiating. With the exception of three years of Roland’s military duty in Lubbock she spent the majority of her life within 10 miles of her birthplace. She moved to New Braunfels in 1995 where she discovered “Bunco” which became a monthly treat. In 2002 she became a member of Peace Lutheran Church, New Braunfels. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Jo Ann and Robert (Bob) Schlabach of New Braunfels; grandchildren, Lenise Duffek and husband Joe of Kingsland, Lavonne Ohnheiser and husband Wade of Seguin; great-grandchildren William Brown of New Braunfels, Robert Brown and wife Margot of New Braunfels, Jessica McCoy and husband Holt of Caldwell, Megan Clare Ohnheiser of Seguin; and great-great grandchild Steel Holt McCoy of Caldwell; three sister-in-laws, Laverna Jacob of Brenham, Nettie Markwardt of Round Top, and Violet Markwardt of Bellville and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, 17 siblings and 22 brother and sisterin- laws. Visitation was held all day
Sunday, Jan. 26 with the family present from 4 to 6 p.m. Pastor Lange had a scripture reading and prayer at 6 p.m.  Visitation was also held at Memorial Oaks Funeral Chapel in Brenham Monday evening, Jan. 27 and will continue until the start of the funeral service at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 28 with interment following at Richter Cemetery in Round Top. The Rev. Gary Lange of Peace Lutheran Church will be officiating. The pallbearers were Robert Brown, William Brown, Floyd (Bubba) Etzel, Berrie Etzel, Danny Ray Jacob, Ricky Blazo, Chester Markwardt, Jr., and Stuart Markwardt. Honorary pallbearers are Steel Holt McCoy, Wade Ohnheiser, Joe Duffek, Holt McCoy and Robbie Blazo. Memorials may be made to Peace Lutheran Church New Braunfels, Bethlehem Lutheran Church Round Top or a charity  of choice. Zoeller Funeral Home in New Braunfels was in charge of arrangements.
