Carole Elizabeth Battelle Pavlicek, 67, of Eagle Lake died Jan. 29, 2014. Carole was born in Columbus on May 5, l946. Carole graduated from La Grange High school in 1964 and received her Associates of Arts Degree from Blinn Jr.  College in Brenham in 1966. She taught on an emergency teacher’s certificate in La Grange for two years. While teaching school, she attended Southwest Texas State Teachers College in San Marcos and obtained her Bachelor’s Degree. In 1970, she moved to Eagle Lake and taught first grade in Garwood with the opening of the newly created Rice Consolidated Independent School District. She taught 4th and 5th grades for many years in Eagle Lake. She then earned her Master’s Degree from Prairie View A&M. Carole has worked at the Boot Camp, the Alternative Education Program that was located at Vox Populi, and then was in charge of the In-School Suspension Room (aka BAR) at Rice High School for five years. There was never a dull moment in her busy teacher’s life. In 2002 Carole found out that she had cancer so  he resigned at the end of the school year to take care of herself and to spend more time with her family. After a while, knowing that she was getting better, she decided that she needed to become active in the school system once again and began substitute teaching. She enjoyed being with the students and faculty of the high school. Carole was cancer free until Christmas of 2008 when cancer struck again causing her to undergo more chemotherapy.  Even while undergoing her treatments she still subbed when called upon and came to realize that in her battle of cancer, that a positive attitude was the only way to beat this monster. Carole was a member of Christ Episcopal Church of Eagle
Lake. She is survived by her husband, David; sons, Dennis Martin of Eagle Lake and Thomas Edward of Eagle Lake; daughters, Sharon Elizabeth Pavlicek Geigley and husband Brad, and their two sons, Bradley Warren and Samson Allen of Eagle Lake, and Ashley Carole Pavlicek Klotz and husband, Johnathan, and their children, Robyn Mackenzie, Matthew  William, and Jordyn Elizabeth of Wallis. Also, surviving her is her twin sister, Mary Ellen Battelle Zavesky and husband Byron of Katy and her sister, Susan Diane Battelle Cooper of Bryan. She is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, it is Carole’s request that memorials be made to Christ Episcopal Church in Eagle Lake, Living Hope Church. Sympathy is extended to the family in their loss. A Memorial Service will be held at Christ Episcopal Church of Eagle Lake, Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014 at 2 p.m. Eagle Lake Funeral Home in Eagle Lake is in charge of  arrangements.
