Katharine (Preusch) Matthews

Katharine (Preusch) Matthews, 90, of La Grange died Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014 at Jefferson Place Assisted Living facility. Katharine was born in Germany on Jan. 8, 1924, the daughter of Henrich and Elizabeth (Wannamacher) Preusch.

She married Walter John Matthews on April 5, 1947 in Frankfurt, Germany. Katharine was a professionally trained seamstress and worked in the clothing industry for many years. She is survived by daughter, Heidi Stone and husband, Roger, of La Grange; son, Peter Matthews and wife, Brenda, of Homosassa, Fla.; son, Stephan Matthews and wife, Heni, of Palm Desert, Calif.; daughter, Karen Morgridge and husband, David, of Virginia Beach, Va.; five grandchildren: Taylor  Matthews, Jennifer Batchelder, Phaedra Morgridge, Renee Morgridge, Levi Stone; seven great-grandchildren: Kassandra, Seth and Logan Batchelder, Kara Long, Declan Bailey, Abby and Zachary Stone; nephew, Rolf Bauer

and wife, Gaby; and great nephews: Thorsten and Heiko Bauer. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter Matthews; one brother and one sister. Visitation was held on Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014 from 2:30 to 6 p.m. at Koenig & Strickland Funeral Home. Family received friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Memorial services were held at First United Methodist

Church, located at 1215 N. Von Minden in La Grange, at 12 noon on Monday, Feb. 10, 2014. Private graveside services  were held prior to the memorial service.
