Eunice “Blondie” Vernette (Cordes) Gau

Eunice “Blondie” Vernette (Cordes) Gau, 88, of La Grange, died Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014 at Monument Hill Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. Blondie was born in Warrenton on Oct. 23, 1925, the daughter of Arthur W. Cordes and Norma (Bode) Cordes. She married Elton Gau on Dec. 13, 1954 in Warrenton. Blondie worked for Schultz Grocery for 40 years and also volunteered at St. Paul Lutheran Church. She is survived by her  sister-in-law, Maxine Treybig Cordes of Houston; niece, Janet Bussart and husband, Tim, of Hockley; nephew, Ray Cordes and wife, Traci, of Houston; two great-nieces; three greatnephews, six great-great-nephews; two great-great nieces; and many friends. She was  preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elton Gau, of 46 years; brother, Arthur C. Cordes, Jr. and niece, Brenda Cordes Maikranz. Visitation was held on Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Koenig & Strickland Funeral  Home. Family received friends from 7 to 9 p.m.Funeral Services were held at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in La Grange at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014. Burial followed at La Grange City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial
