Kendall Bradshaw Macdaniel

Kendall Bradshaw Macdaniel died peacefully and gracefully on Monday, March 10, 2014 at home with her family. She was born on February 17, 1935 in Waco, Texas. Kendall was the only child of Horace William (Bill) Bradshaw and Louise Basenberg Bradshaw. She moved to San Antonio while in elementary school and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1953. Kendall went on to receive her Bachelor’s degree in Education from the University of Texas in Austin where she was an active member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. Beta Theta Phi fraternity spotted Kendall walking down “the Drag” in a neon blue jacket and recognized her from Mark

Twain Junior High. After some searching in the UT directory, he got her phone number and asked her for a date. Being on short notice, and having a full social calendar, Kendall turned him down. But persistence prevailed as he called a second time, but again, on short notice, Kendall turned him down. Learning his lesson, he asked  her a third time with proper notice and it was the start of a 58-year love affair. They were married on December 26, 1956 and had three children, Sherman Paine Macdaniel, Jr. and his wife, Janet of Highlands Ranch, CO; Anne Macdaniel Mitchell and her husband, Doug of Fayetteville, TX; Sara Macdaniel Bull and her husband, Tom of Marblehead, MA.; daughter-in-law, Florence Clarke Hartsfield of San Antonio, TX and devoted cousin, Tonya Basenberg Cummings of San Antonio, TX and Tammy Eisenlohr; grandchildren, William Sumner Macdaniel and his fiance, Amanda Pehacek, Raymond Miles Macdaniel; Allison Suzanne Landis, Frances Jane Mitchell, Douglas Barron Mitchell, Jr. and Whitney Emerson Mitchell; Alexander Thomas Bull and Lauren Kendall Bull. Kendall had a kind soul and a grace that extended to everyone she met. She was a collector of memories, of phrases, and of all the important writings and recognitions of those she loved. A true lover of history and genealogy, she was the “keeper” of our family history starting from the generations before her to the generations she helped to create. Her love of history was evident in her love of antiques. A gifted collector and antique dealer, Kendall was also a licensed antique appraiser as well as a certified mediator with the Dispute Resolution Center of Harris County. She and Sherman were longtime members of First Presbyterian Church in San Antonio and in Houston, frequently hosting bible studies and care groups in their home. In addition to her life in Houston and San Antonio, she loved their weekend farm house in Fayetteville, TX which she opened to family and friends as well as a bed and breakfast for several years. There, she was on the Founding Board of Directors of ARTS (Arts for Rural Texas) as well as serving with her husband as council members of the Winedale Historical Center. The family would like to give thanks to the staff at Odyssey Hospice for making Kendall’s last days comfortable and peaceful. CELEBRATION OF LIFE
