Barbara (Lockman) Wernette, 73, of Bastrop died Monday, March 24, 2014 at Care Inn in La Grange. Barbara was born in Floresville on Sept. 7, 1940, the daughter of Henry B. and Elsie L. (Raska) Lockman. Barbara married Fred E. Wernette on Oct. 15, 1961 in San Antonio. Barbara was a vibrant, intelligent, beautiful person who devoted her life to her family
that included her husband and three daughters. While taking care of her family, she managed to work as a Certified Medical Technologist for various hospitals and doctors in both San Antonio and Houston. She also spent time around her favorite animal, horses, while working with a quarter horse ranch veterinarian. In her spare time, she worked, again very successfully, as an officer and treasurer of the Texas Organization of Wildlife Management Associations, the Fayette Countywide Co-op Association, and, her favorite, the North Central Fayette County Wildlife Co-op. Her tireless dedication to the success of not only her husband but also her three girls lives on. The countless moments she spent solving problems for her family and friends with little regard to her own problems are special memories for us all. With her boundless, loving nature, she had the ability to make anyone feel part of her family, so much so, that many call her “Mom”. Her family and numerous friends know full well a very special person has left  this earth to join the legions of saintly people who are receiving their just reward in Heaven. Those whose lives were touched by her intelligent,  generous, caring soul will never forget her. One memory that will live on is the day her husband, Fred, met Barbara - May
17, 1956. That day started the most fantastic, lovable, companionship that only God could have allowed to happen.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Fred Wernette; her three daughters: Phyllis Schwarz and husband, Fred,
of Castle Pines, Colo.; Lisa Furlow and husband, Ernie, of Baton Rouge, La.; and Stephanie Wernette of Los Angeles,
Calif.; her two brothers: John Lockman and wife, Sherry, of Kilgore; and Tim Lockman and wife, Liz, of San Antonio;
her grandchildren: Caitlyn Schwarz, Cullen Schwarz, and Caileigh Schwarz, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Henry and Elsie Lockman, and her sister, Sandra Youngblood. A memorial mass officiated by Rev. Fr. Steven Sauser and Rev. Fr. Robert Ruhnke will be held at St. John The Baptist Catholic Church in Fayetteville at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 3, 2014. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to
