Margaret (Vasek) Wood, 80, of La Grange, died Thursday, April 3, 2014 at Seton Medical Center in Austin as the result of 
a severe stroke. Margaret was born in La Grange on Oct. 30, 1933, the daughter of Anton E. Vasek and Ludmilla (Bordovsky) Vasek, the original owners of Riverside Cafe. Margaret attended the University of Texas in Austin majoring
in Education. She was a  member of Delta Gamma Sorority and was voted One of the Ten Most Beautiful Freshmen at the University. Margaret modeled professionally in Shreveport, La. and Austin in the 1960’s. She pursued her passion for  teaching at St. Rose in Schulenburg (3rd grade) and La Grange Elementary (4th grade). Later in life, past students surprised her with praise of how she affected their lives. Margaret lived in La Grange for the past thirty years. She was
a long-time member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She was married to Judge David Murray for twenty-two years and  to John Wood for fifteen years. She also lived in Meridian, Miss; Austin; and Shreveport, La. Margaret had a witty personality and a great sense of humor. She loved gardening and was a long-time supporter of SPCA. She will be greatly missed by all and especially her three daughters and her beautiful white Siamese cat, Samantha. She is survived by her first husband, David M. Murray; three daughters: Lisa Murray Kana and husband, Charles, of Houston; Meg Murray Brown and husband, David, of Austin; Allison Murray Groppe and husband, Hans, of Houston; brother, Tom Vasek of La Grange; sister, Mary Jane Darnell of San Antonio; sister-in-law, Martha Vasek of Pearland; four grandchildren: Kyle Kana and wife, Kacee; Sarah Jackson and husband, Fields; Courtney Meinen and husband, Burk and Henry Groppe IV; three great-grandchildren: Andrew, Greer and William; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John Wood; and brother, Dan Vasek. Visitation was held on Monday, April 7, 2014 from 2 to 7 p.m. at Koenig & Strickland Funeral Home. Family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m. A rosary was recited at 7 p.m.
Funeral Services will be held at Koenig & Strickland Funeral Home at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 8, 2014. Burial will follow at La Grange City Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter, 240 Svoboda
