Betty Joan Wauer

Betty Joan Wauer, 76, of Bryan, went to be with her Lord on Monday, April 7, 2014. Betty was born on Dec. 4, 1937 to Alvis N. and Mary L.
(Holcomb) Newman in Barnhart. She graduated from Big Lake High School in Reagan County and worked for the National Park Service for sixteen
years. Betty was proud to be a descendant of William Rabb and Joseph Newman of Stephen F. Austin’s Old 300 making her a 7th Generation Texan. She was
also a member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Colonial Dames. Betty was responsible
for acquiring the original Rabb Millstones currently on display in La Grange and historical markers across Texas. She had a passion for genealogy, writing
quarterly family newsletters and organizing family reunions for the descendants of the Old 300, but most of all traveling with the love of her life, Ro. Through
their travels, she found her second love, butterflies. Betty leaves behind her loving husband of 37 years, Ro Wauer; four sons, Bill Nichols
and his wife LeeAnn, Brad Nichols and his wife Gina, Brent Nichols and his wife Patricia, Barry Nichols and his wife Sharon; three daughters, Becky
Bearce, Trina Wauer, and Vicky Gelatt; twenty grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mary Lois Zeller, Mildred Roach, and Patty Turner;
one brother, George Newman; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents. A memorial service will be
held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 12 at Christ United Methodist Church, 4201 State Hwy. 6 South in College Station with Jerry House officiating.
