June Hardy Sellers

June Hardy Sellers, a much loved lady, has gone to a better place, leaving behind a large, loving family and life-long

friends. She passed away April 24, 2014 in La Grange. As a newborn, she was left in a basket at the door of the

Methodist Childrens’ Home in Selma, Ala. in 1919. The children at the home named her “June Elvidge” after a movie

actress of that time. She was soon adopted by Harris Whitfield and Amanda Knight Wood Hardy, spending her early

years attending schools and making friends in Selma. She married Elvin Boykin Sellers, Sr., of Montgomery, in 1935. Together they had four boys and a girl. June made lifelong friends as she and Boykin moved about the United States.

She lived in nine different states and retired to Alabama. For health reasons, she moved to Ohio, again to Alabama and

ultimately to Texas. Pets were an important part of her life as she and Boykin raised birds, cats, dogs and Arabian horses and loved them all dearly. From most humble beginnings, she became a strong, supportive wife, an excellent

cook, a good friend, a loving mother, a joyful grandmother and great grandmother. Great love and affection has accrued to her over the past ninety-four years as she has traveled through her life and across this country. She is most sorely missed and love for her will linger for a long, long time. She is survived by her sons, E. Boykin Sellers, Jr. and his wife Piper of Salinas, Calif.; Robert and wife, Linda, of Waterville, Ohio; Harvey and wife Marie of Millbrook, Ala.; Michael and wife Karen of Libertyville, Ill.; and daughter, Cynthia June and husband Duke Hengst of La Grange. Her legacy is her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; they promise to create good things and live productive lives. She had fourteen grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband and one granddaughter, Kimberly. Service and burial will be May 1 at Alabama Heritage Cemetery in Montgomery, Ala. Memorials may be given to Hospice Brazos Valley, 1048 N.
