Mary Elena “Lena” Henderson Williams

Mary Elena “Lena” Henderson Williams, 93, of Lampasas died at Springs Oaks Nursing Home on April 17, 2014. Lena was the daughter of Ernest Cadwell and Gertrude (Parson) Henderson. She was born in Lampasas on Dec. 14, 1920,
and married Wayne Herman Williams on July 16, 1939. They moved to the San Marcos area in 1951. In 2010 Lena returned to Lampasas. Lena was a cook, and a very good one. She worked as a cook in restaurants and school cafeteria in San Marcos for 20  years, and was a homemaker. She loved kids and dogs (but the dogs had to stay outside). She loved baseball and watching her chiidren and grandchildren play sports. She said she went to the ball field for about forty years. She was a wonderful person who was concerned about her family and always put them first. After her husband died and all the kids were out of the house, she had a hard time just cooking for one. She always cooked too much so she would share with her neighbors. She accepted Christ at a young age and was baptized in the Lampasas River in Kempner. Her membership was in the Kempner Baptist Church. Her favorite Bible verses was  Psalm 23. She was preceded in death by her husband Wayne, two sons- Darrell and David and one grandson, four brothers “Bub”, Dick, Bill, and Charles Henderson; two sisters, Joyce Brackett and Alice “Deet” Cantwell. She is survived by eight sons, Ernest and Marianne of La Grange, Denny and Cynthia of San Marcos, Mickey and Robin of Wimberley, Gray and Kathy of San Marcos, Tommy of Lytle, E. B. of San Marcos, Bobby and Shelly of San Marcos, Ronnie and Carolyn of Maxwell; two daughters, Wanda and Lanny Montague of Lampasas, and Donna and Dennis Dusek of Fisher; two sisters, Pat and Alfred Hughes of Austin and Addie Mae and Don Ralph of Lampasas; two brothers, Ernest and Glenda Henderson of Lampasas and Leo and Gail Henderson of Hewitt; 26 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Memorials can be made to Kempner Cemetery  Association, P.O. Box 37, Kempner, Texas 76539 or to the charity of your choice.
