Julia (Zapalac) Hrachovy

Julia (Zapalac) Hrachovy, 97, of Fayetteville, died Sunday, May 18, 2014 at Monument Hill Rehabilitation and Nursing

Center in La Grange. Julia was born in Frelsburg on Sept. 4, 1916, the daughter of Fred and Anna (Noska) Zapalac.

She attended school in Frelsburg until she and her family moved to the farm near Ellinger. She then attended school at HostynHill until the 7th grade. Being  the oldest of the siblings, she had to discontinue her education to work on the farm.

She married Frank Edmund Hrachovy on Nov. 12, 1935 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ellinger. They had three children,

Leonard, Dolores and Robert. Being a busy farm wife, she loved to cook and bake as anyone who had ever visited

with her could attest to. Sewing was another one of her talents as was quilting, many of which she donated to the church bazaars. She yearned to be a teacher and thus enjoyed teaching vacation bible school during the summer. Many years later, students were still writing her notes of thanks for the impact she had on them as their teacher. Never one to be idle, Julia, who by now had lost both of her young sons, decided to dedicate her life to service as a nurses’ aide at Fayette Memorial Hospital and help others in need. She did this faithfully for the next 15 years. However, her greatest

achievement was creating a genealogy story on all four branches of her and her husband’s family. She truly enjoyed doing extensive research which eventually led her to visit the Czech Republic and ultimately made contact with living relatives there. She was a living library of genealogy and was always more than ready to share any and all information with anyone. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church almost all of her life. She was also a member of the Altar Society, Catholic Daughters of the Americas and KJZT, of which she was president for over 40 years. Her faith and service to her church was something she took very seriously, always being there ready  to take on anything that needed

to be done. She is survived by her daughter, Dolores Wolff and husband, Harry, of Rosenberg; three grandchildren: Michelle Moehlig and husband, Todd, of Richmond; Tim Wolff and wife, Missie, of Rosenberg; Kevin Wolff and wife, Amanda, of Needville; four great-grandchildren: Kellie Moehlig, Madison  Moehlig, Dylan Wolff and Luke Wolff; sisters-in-law: Evylene Zapalac, Marie Hrachovy, Bernadette Kovar, Alice Krenek and Beatrice Baron and husband, Lawrence; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank; two sons: Leonard and Robert Hrachovy; two brothers: John and Sylvester Zapalac; and two sisters, Elizabeth Shula and Viola Hrachovy.

She has gone on to a much deserved reward and to reunite with those who preceded her and whom she missed dearly.

Visitation was held on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 from 5 to 8 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ellinger. A rosary 

will be recited at 7 p.m. at thechurch. Funeral services will be held  at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, in Ellinger at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 22, 2014. Burial will Obituaries follow at the Fayetteville Catholic Cemetery. Memorial contributions may
