Leona (Kowalczyk) Herr

Leona (Kowalczyk) Herr, 89, of Carmine died Friday, May 23, 2014 at Hudson Creek Assisted Living in Bryan. Leona was born in Kalamazoo, Mich. on May 22, 1925, the daughter of Ignatius and Katherine (Konkel) Kowalczyk. She married Wilfred Charles Herr on Feb. 6, 1960 at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Houston. She worked for Texaco and Rice (Institute) University in Administration before staying home to raise her family. Leona loved socializing and meeting new people. She was a true lover of animals. Her art work will always be cherished by her family. She is survived by daughter,

Laura Price and husband, Paul, of Carmine; son, David Herr of Austin; and grandson, Jay Price of Austin. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wilfred Herr; sister, Evelyn Tesarand and brother, Raymond Chester  Kowalczyk. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Koenig & Strickland Funeral Home. Family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church in Giddings at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 29, 2014. Burial will follow at Giddings Cemetery.
