Gertrude (Bernshausen) Hill

Gertrude (Bernshausen) Hill, 76, of Baytown, passed away on Sunday, June 22, 2014, at Methodist Hospital in Houston.

Gertrude was born on April 5, 1983 in Fayetteville, the second daughter of the late Henry and Iola (Schmidt) Bernshausen, formerly of Fayetteville. She moved to Baytown after graduating from Fayetteville Rural High School in 1956. She married Jack A. Hill on Dec. 20, 1958 in Baytown. He preceded her in death on Dec. 25, 1999. She was a devoted wife and mother, who loved to read books, do word puzzles, and spend time with her family. She is survived by her four children: son, Jack, Jr. and wife Jeanette and three daughters, Patricia Hall and husband Ken, Teresa Bell and husband Jerry, all of Baytown, and Carrie Rouse and husband Darrel of Crosby. Also surviving are seven grand children and four great-grandchildren, all of Baytown. Surviving sisters are: Virginia Fritsch and husband Adrian of Columbus, Violet Krenek and husband Robert, Sr. of Fayetteville, Stephine Zucha and husband James of Baytown, Melba Reisner and husband Tony of Sealy, Judy Catasein and husband Jay of Atlanta, Ga., and one brother, Henry H. Bernshausen and wife Mary of Baytown; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and many friends. Visitation was held Tuesday,

June 24, 2014 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Earthman Funeral Home in Baytown. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at 2 p.m. Pastor Jim Lamb of the Garth Rd. Baptist Church officiated. Burial followed in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Baytown. Earthman Funeral Home in Baytown was in charge of arrangements.
