Jimmy H, Allen, 74, died early Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at his residence in La Grange. He was born Jan. 29, 1940 in Marion, La. A celebration of life for Jimmy will be held on Sunday, July 20 from 2 to 5 p.m. at Celebrations by Bistro 108 wine bar in La Grange. After graduating with a degree in civil engineering from Louisiana Tech University, he went to work for the Louisiana Highway Department in Baton Rouge, La. and shortly thereafter the US Army Corps of Engineers
in Vicksburg, Miss. After taking graduate courses at the University of California in Berkley, he hired on with Bechtel
working in San Francisco, Ann Arbor and Houston. Over the past 50 plus years, he worked for several different engineering and construction companies that took him around the globe. He lived and/or worked throughout the middle east, Europe, South America, Africa, and China only to name a few. Jimmy had many hobbies and talents. He traveled throughout the world taking photographs of all the fascinating things he saw. He developed his own photos and had shows at the Art Guild in Fayetteville and Celebrations by Bistro 108 wine bar in La Grange. He was also a very talented
keyboardist; playing the organ, piano, and harpsichord. He was a board member of the Art Guild in Fayetteville and he and his wife hosted several memorable Christmas parties in their home. He was well loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Jimmy was a member of The United Methodist Church in La Grange. He also serviced as an
organist for several local churches. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Joanna Allen; son, Jeffrey Allen; daughters, Becky Bray, Beth Starmack; sister, Patricia Morris; grandchildren, Kari Jernigan, Meghan Beilman, Alicia Dean, Joshua Starmack, Clayci Allen and Jacob Allen; great-grandchild, Autumn Grace Jernigan.
