Laura Huelsebusch Jatzlau

 Laura Huelsebusch Jatzlau, 91, died Tuesday, July 15, 2014, in Methodist Hospital. She was born near La Grange on Sept. 1, 1922, the eldest daughter of Mary Hoefer Huelsebusch and Alfred Huelsebusch, one of three children.

She attended school in Plum and Trinity Hill, where she met her future husband, Leonard Paul Jatzlau. She graduated

from LaGrange High School in 1940. She and Leonard were married on Aug. 25, 1945, at Trinity Hill Lutheran Church of La Grange. They moved to Houston, where after 16 years as a homemaker Laura worked as a secretary for the City of Houston Real Estate Department for 24 years until she retired in 1986. Laura and Leonard celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1995 in Ellinger. They have two children: a son, Jack L. Jatzlau, of The Woodlands,  and a daughter, Mary Susan  Westhoff and son-in-law Dr. Stefan Franz Westhoff of Duesseldorf, Germany, as well as two

grandchildren: Laura Renate Isabelle Westhoff-Ntumbabu and her husband Alain Ntumbabu of Chilly Mazarin, France;

and grandson Franz Christian Alfred Westhoff of Duesseldorf; and two great-grandchildren, Raphael Leo Ntumbabu and Celia Susan Ntumbabu of Chilly Mazarin, France. Laura was a long-time member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Houston. She loved cooking, gardening, playing with her cats, reading, sewing, and being with her family and friends.

She is survived by her son, daughter, son-in-law, grandchildren, great-grandchildren,  and sister Joyce Boening of

La Grange; aunts, Edna Hoefer of La Grange and Mildred Schulze of Freyburg; sister-inlaw, Jeanette Huelsebusch of La

Grange; brother-in-law, Alfred Jatzlau of Houston; sister-inlaw and brother-in-law, Verline and Stanley Berkman of Austin;

sister-in-law, Merle Jatzlau of Lovelady; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, friends, and neighbors. Preceding her in death were her parents, Mary Hoefer Huelsebusch and Alfred Huelsebusch; husband, Leonard Paul Jatzlau; in-laws, Marie Melcher Jatzlau and Paul Garrett Jatzlau; brother, Roy Huelsebusch; brother-in-law, Leslie Boening; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Irene and Erwin Mueller; sisterin- law and brother-in-law, Evelyn

and Wilbert Keller; brother- in-law, Melvin Jatzlau; and sister-in-law, Joy Jatzlau. Visitation was held at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, located at 5315 Main St. in Houston, at 10 a.m. before funeral services officiated by Rev. Mark Wiesenborn began at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2014. Graveside services and interment were at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Cemetery near LaGrange at 4 p.m
