LITTLE LEAGUERS, BIG DREAMS
This week the Little League World Series begins in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, with all the games televised on ESPN.
From his living room in La Grange, Clement Trlicek watches the games, like he does every season, and thinks back to the magical summer of 1974. Forty years ago, Trlicek helped coach what still stands as the most successful youth
baseball team Fayette County has ever had – a team of 11 and 12-year-olds from La Grange, Fayetteville and Round Top- Carmine that rattled off 13 consecutive playoff victories to win not only the state title but came within one win of going to the
World Series themselves, losing 1-0 to Jackson, Tennessee in the title game of the Southern Regional Tournament in Florida.
