Bruce Leonard Hammerbacher
Bruce Leonard Hammerbacher, 68, died Aug. 21, 2014, in La Grange. Bruce was born in Baltimore, Md., on Aug. 7, 1946, and lived in Ferndale, Md., until he joined the military in 1965 and became a US Navy petty officer. In 1970 he moved to Texas pursuing a career working with electrical contractors serving as estimator, project engineer/manager, and cost analyst. That year he also met his future wife, Alison, in Houston, where in 1975 they married. In 1977 he was transferred back home to Maryland continuing his career there. In 1986 their only child, Bert, was born. In 2010 Bruce retired and in 2013 moved back to warmer Texas due to ill health. He lived most of his life in the Lakeshore area of Maryland on the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay. His favorite pastimes included a game of pinochle or poker, billiards, listening to or attending Baltimore Orioles baseball games, boating and fishing around the Chesapeake Bay, collecting knives, and in his younger days he loved to go softcrabbing on Maryland’s Magothy River. He is survived by his wife of almost forty years Alison Lyn (Frazier) Hammerbacher of La Grange; son, Bert Leonard Hammerbacher, 28, of Glen Burnie, Md.; sister, Agnes (Hammerbacher) Heath and her husband Arthur William Heath of Lakeshore, Md.; nephew, Glenn William Heath and his wife Jackie (Caldwell) Heath of Lakeshore, Md.; and nephew, Todd Heath of Lakeshore, Md. Bruce was preceded in death by his father Gilbert George Hammerbacher, and mother Edna Mae (Buckheit) Hammerbacher, both of Baltimore, Md.
