Esther (Winkler) Behrens

Esther (Winkler) Behrens, 99, of La Grange, died on Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2014 at Care Inn of La Grange. Visitation was held on Friday, Aug. 22, 2014 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Koenig & Strickland Funeral Home. Family received friends from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Funeral Services were held at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, located at 800 N. Franklin in La Grange, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014. Burial followed at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Cemetery. Esther was born in Fayette County, on Oct. 9, 1914, the daughter of John and Anna (Michalk) Winkler. She married Otto Behrens on Nov. 10, 1935. Esther was a homemaker. She was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, Ladies’ Aid of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church and Lutheran Braille Society. She is survived by daughter, Carolyn Mitschke and husband, James, of Giddings; sister, Irene Moerbe of Giddings; four grandchildren: Lori Moreton; Susan Schatte and husband, Monroe Schatte, Jr.; James E. Mitschke II and wife, Rae Ann; Jonathan Mitschke and wife, Shanna; eight great grandchildren: Kari Stewart and husband, Conner; Brandon Moreton and wife, Audra; Scott Moreton and wife, Alicia; Ashley Schatte; Erich Schatte and fiancée, Kelsey Pearson; Dalton Mitschke, Jordyn M. Mitschke and Ehren Mitschke; three great great grandchildren: Kamrie Stewart, Eden Moreton and Kenzie Stewart; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Otto Behrens; two infant brothers; two sisters: Alma Sury and Augusta Miertschin; three step brothers: Gus Schubert, Gerhard Schubert, Emil Schubert; two step sisters: Alma Schulze and Lena Schautschiek.
