Ann Louise Cordes Ward

Ann Louise Cordes Ward was born June 25, 1939 in Fayetteville and died Sept. 16, 2014. She graduated from Sam Houston University with a degree in Home Economics and taught school in Corpus Christi and Houston for many years. She married Raymond Ward in 1977. A pilot herself, she shared in his enthusiasm for aviation and experimental aircraft, and they flew their planes in tandem to the annual air show in Oshkosh, Wis. Talented and skilled in most everything she did, she was known for her cooking, painting, sewing, quilting, stained glass and for serving as organist at the Lutheran Church in Beasley. She was a member of “The Ninety-Nines” club (Amelia Earhart was an original member) and the American Sewing Guild, and enjoyed the company of her many dear friends and neighbors. She was preceded by her husband Ray Ward, her parents Alfred and Louise Cordes and brother Chester Cordes. She is survived by brothers WW Cordes and Al Cordes and sister-in-law Charline Cordes, sons Mathew (Mat) Ward and Malcolm (Macky) Ward, three grandchildren James Berry, Jenna Ward and Theodore Ward, two great-grandchildren Leilani and Koa Berry, nieces Russelle Heard (and husband Dow), Christine Cordes and Rosemary Bonner, and nephews Michael Cordes and Jeffrey Cordes (and wife Beatriz, (children Alicia, Monica and Jeffrey), who will never forget the many years of joy, love and laughter they shared. The family wishes to offer special thanks to Christine Cordes for her extraordinary attention to Ann during her period of illness. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, Sept. 28, 2014 at 1 p.m. at the Hope Lutheran Church in Beasley.
