Emil Florian Petter
Emil Florian Petter, 96, of Wharton, died with his family at his side at his residence on Oct. 16, 2014. He was born April 26, 1918 in Fayette County to the late, Willie F. Petter and Mary Mynar Petter. He married Lillie Korenek on Nov. 8, 1948, in Nada. Lillie preceded Emil in death in October of 1995. Emil worked as a manager of Hungerford Co-op Store and Gin in Hungerford for 42 years. He was an active member of Knights of Columbus Council, VFW-Wharton Chapter, American Legion-Wharton Post 87, 75 year member of KJT Society-Hungerford, St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Hungerford and Holy Family Catholic Church in Wharton since the 1940’s. He served as a Tech Sergeant in the U.S. Army Medical Corp. for five years during WWII at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio and in London, England and Paris, France from 1939-1944. Visitation was held on Friday evening, Oct. 17 from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Wharton Funeral Home. Funeral services were held on Saturday, Oct. 18, 2014 with a rosary at 10 a.m. and services at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, 2011 Briar Lane in Wharton. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton. The Wharton American Legion Post 87 performed TAPS, presented the American Flag and honored Mr Petter with a gun salute. Survivors include his sons, Michael Petter of San Antonio and James Petter of Azle; daughters, Janet Corporon of Richmond, Eileen Short and her husband Warren of Denton, and Shirley Shadle of Missouri City; grandchildren, Brett Corporon and partner Anna Stolz of Corpus Christi, Nicole Corporon and partner Jonathan Case of Richmond, Michelle
Petter Stafford and husband Ted of Dallas, Will Petter and wife Laura of Dallas, Chris Petter of Washington, D.C., Andrew Petter of San Antonio; Stacey Shadle of Missouri City, Kelly Shadle and partner Shay Stevens of Wharton; Kyle Petter, Zachary Petter, Derek Petter all of Azle; great-grandchildren, Jesse Shadle and Colton Stevens.
