Norman W. Mersiovsky, 77, of La Grange died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2014. Norman was born in The Grove, Texas on March 6, 1937, the son of Martin and Ella (Deutschmann) Mersiovsky. He was baptized on March 21, 1937 and confirmed in the Christian faith with the confirmation verse of 2 Peter 3:18—But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen. He graduated from Jarrell High School, where he played 6-man football. On Nov. 20, 1960, he married Carolyn Ann Koepke at Trinity Hill Lutheran Church in La Grange. Norman served his country for 20 years in the United States Army and was honorably discharged upon his retirement on May 19, 1980 after achieving the rank of Master Sergeant. While stationed in Portales, New Mexico, Norman received his Associate degree in General Arts at Eastern New Mexico University. As a devout Christian, Norman was actively involved in each Lutheran Church wherever he was stationed. He was also instrumental in the creation of the Lutheran Church while stationed in Tehran, Iran. After his retirement, Norman and his family moved to La Grange, where he was employed first at The Western Company and then for the State of Texas at Monument Hill State Park, from which he retired on April 30, 1996 after ten years of service. Norman enjoyed working on small engines and provided several of his children with their first cars by buying and fixing VW Bugs. He continued with his passion of fixing engines by owning and operating Norm’s Small Engine Hospital. Norman was a faithful member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in La Grange. He served his church as an elder, sang in the Adult Choir and was a member of the Men’s Club. He was actively involved in the Lutheran Hour Ministries, where he served as the Church representative for many years. Norman was a member of the Rotary Club, the Day Lily Club in Austin, Monument Hill Kreische Brewery Docent Organization, and a Leadership Sponsor for Lutheran Outdoors Ministry of Texas. He enjoyed playing dominoes and watching the La Grange Leopard football team. When he was unable to attend a football game, he enjoyed listening to the game on the radio while shelling pecans on his back porch. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn, of 54 years; three daughters: Katherine Mersiovsky of Round Rock, Christine Roensch and husband, Donald, of La Grange, Cheryl Rogers of Round Rock; two sons: David Mersiovsky of Fayetteville, N.C. and Paul Mersiovsky of La Grange; three grandchildren: Christopher Roensch, Christa Roensch and Amanda Rogers; three brothers: Victor Mersiovsky and wife, Mamie, of Temple, Orlando Mersiovsky and wife, La Nell, of Troy, and Eugene Mersiovsky of Belton; one sister- in-law, Kathy Schwegmann and husband, David, of Georgetown; two brothers-in-law: Herman “Billy” Koepke, Jr. of La Grange and Charles Koepke and Nelda Blaha of Plum; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; Martin and Ella Mersiovsky; one brother and sister-in-law, Herbert and Gladys Mersiovsky; one nephew, Bruce Mersiovsky; and one sonin- law, Robert Rogers, Jr. Visitation will be held on Friday, Nov. 28, 2014 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Koenig & Strickland Funeral Home. Family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. A prayer service will be held at 6:45 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, located at 800 N. Franklin in La Grange, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 29, 2014. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Cemetery.
