Funeral services for Bernice Leona Havrda Vasek, 85, of Schulenburg, were held Monday, Dec. 15, 2014 at 2 p.m. at St. John Catholic Church in St. John, Texas. Interment was in the St. John Catholic Cemetery. She died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2014. Bernice was born on Aug. 28, 1929 in Velehrad to Joe and Carrie Krause Havrda. She graduated from St. John Parochial School. She married George Vasek on July 9, 1946. Survivors include: two daughters, Caroline Mazoch and fiance Jimmy Sumbera of La Grange, and Theresa Elzoery and husband Moody of Pasadena; three sisters, Janet Vyvlecka of Davis, Calif., Patsy Miksch and husband Leroy of Cypress, and Shirley Kirks and husband Steve of Red Rock; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband George; daughter Barbara; one grandson and three brothers. Schwenke-Baumgarten Funeral Home in Schulenburg was in charge of arrangements.
