Richard Charles Ullrich
Richard Charles Ullrich, 83, of Ledbetter, died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2015 at Care Inn of La- Grange. Richard was born in Houston on July 8, 1931, the son of George Oliver Ullrich and Nellie (Crawford) Ullrich. He married Connie Adair on June 22, 1956 in Houston. Richard served in the U.S. Navy as an Engineman Third Class (EN3) and received the National Defense Service Medal. He worked as a Field Service Manager for Mercedes Benz of North America and also did consulting for Jaguar USA. He is survived by his wife, Connie, of 58 years; three daughters: Debra Owensby of Greenville, S.C.; Carrie Cole and husband, Don, of Houston; Heidi Ullrich of Ledbetter; two sons: Blair Ullrich and his fiancée, Diane Scicluna of Phoenix, Ariz. and Bart Ullrich and wife, Sheila, of Hempstead; eight granddaughters: Courtney Palmer, Savannah Ullrich, Leah Ullrich, Hannah Ullrich, Melissa Ullrich-Andrews, Christie Ullrich-Ruiz, Marci Pavia and Amanda Krieg; four grandsons: Curt Proske, Brandon Ullrich, Gregory Cole and Duke Franklin; fourteen great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, George Ullrich, Jr. Richard was a proud plank owner of the USS Impervious, a mine sweeper in the US Navy. He served as one of the founders of the 4-H Horse Club in Fayette County in the late 60s and early 70s. He was honored to help organize the Houston Area Palomino Exhibitors Association. Always a creative person, he discovered his talent as an artist after his retirement. Visitation will be held on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Koenig & Strickland Funeral Home. Family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church, located at 121 S. College in La Grange, at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 11, 2015. Burial will follow at Waldeck Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Children’s Ministry, P.O. Box 97, La Grange, Texas 78945; Hospice Brazos Valley, 1048 N.
