Edward “Birdy” Schielack

Edward “Birdy” Schielack, 81, of La Grange died on Thursday, Jan. 15, 2015 at Parkview Manor in Weimar. Birdy was born in Fayetteville on March 14, 1933, the son of Ben and Elenora (Foyt)  Schielack. He married Irene Polasek on Feb. 13, 1952 in La Grange. Birdy served in the U.S. Navy as an SH3. He was a  member of the Knights of Columbus and Veterans of Foreign War. He was the 2nd Assistant Chief of the La Grange Volunteer Fire Department for many  years. Birdy worked as a Barber in La Grange for 60 years. Birdy was an avid hunter and enjoyed hunting in Colorado with his brothers and friends.  His other interests included clear water fishing, water skiing, gambling and playing straight dominos with his family and friends. He is survived by three sons: Richard “Rick” Schielack and wife, Gayle; Ronnie  Schielack and wife, Bonnie; Brad Schielack and wife, Kay; all of La Grange; two brothers: Weldon Schielack of Houston and Jimmie Schielack of Fayetteville; sister, Ruby Berger of Columbus; sister-in-law, Mabel S chielack of Fayetteville; six grandchildren: Stuart Schielack and wife, Myste; Greg Schielack and wife, Amy; Brandon Schielack and wife, Britney; Matt Schielack and wife, Liz;  Alex Schielack; Trent Schielack and friend, Kourtney Parchman; six great-grandchildren: Stone, Crew, Skarlet, Wyatt, Grant and Caleb Schielack; and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Irene; grandson, Heath Schielack and infant great-granddaughter, Madison Schielack. Visitation was held on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Koenig & Strickland Funeral Home. Family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral Services were held at Koenig & Strickland Funeral Home at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 18, 2015. Burial followed at La Grange City Cemetery.
