Bernice Stella Schacherl, 88, of Flatonia died Sunday, March 8, 2015 at Schulenburg Regency Nursing Home in Schulenburg. Funeral services were held Thursday, March 12, 2015 at 10 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Flatonia. Father Eddie Winkler officiated. Interment followed at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Flatonia. Visitation began at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Flatonia, followed by Stations of the Cross at 6:30 and Rosary at 7 p.m. Bernice was born in Flatonia on March 16, 1926. She was the daughter of Charles and Catherine (Bartosh) Syrinek. She graduated from Flatonia High School and married Adolph Schacherl, Jr. on Aug. 31, 1953 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Flatonia. Bernice, also known as Oma or Grandma, loved spending time with her grandchildren and attendedall activities in which  they were involved. She was a very friendly and outgoing person who could sit for hours in a restaurant and visit with all the customers as they came and went. She was never late to agathering and wanted to be the  first one there. Bernice enjoyed reading various newspapers, sewing, and going to dances with Junior. She helped Junior in many ways at S&S Grain. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters, the Alter Society, the American Legion Auxiliary, and she wasa past member of the Flatonia  Chamber of Commerce. She cooked for all 41 Czhilispiel celebrations. Bernice is survived by one son, Richard Schacherl and his wife, Kelly of Flatonia; two daughters, Barbara Kay Velasquez and her husband, Danny of Flatonia, Brenda Mitchell and her husband, Chad of BuchananDam; six grandchildren,  Heather Jasek and her husband, Donald of Praha, Catherine Velasquez of Flatonia, Gabriel Velasquez of Flatonia, Cote Schacherl of Flatonia, Abigail Schacherl of Flatonia, Peyton Mitchell of Buchanan Dam; one Great-granddaughter, Haley Taranowski; and one brother, Gene Syrinek and his wife, Evelyn of Austin. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Catherine Syrinek; and her husband, Adolph Schacherl, Jr. The family request memorials to the: American Legion, c/o S&S Grain, P.O.
