Lightning Strike Sparks Oil Fire

John Faseler captured this dramatic image of a lightning strike Saturday evening about 9 p.m. as he took pictures from the east side of the Fayette Lake at Oak Thicket Park looking west-north west toward La Grange. He said he saw an orange glow for about 30 minutes after the strike, which turned out to be a fire at an oil well.

Lightning from Saturday night’s powerful thunderstorm struck a fiberglass holding tank at an oil well site, touching off three separate fires. Four trucks and 13 firemen from the La Grange volunteer fire department responded to the scene near 9112 Fritsch Road (making entrance to the oil drilling pad from Teitjen Road) where they found a fiberglass holding tank (which contained oil and saltwater) collapsed and burning.
