Alice (Kollaja) Chernosky

Alice (Kollaja) Chernosky, 75, of La Grange, died Friday, May 8, 2015. Alice was born in La Grange on Jan. 24, 1940, the daughter of Emil J. Kollaja and Annie M. (Srubar) Kollaja. She married Walter H. Chernosky on April 8, 1961 at St. John The Baptist Catholic Church in Fayetteville. Alice worked at the Sears catalog store in La Grange for 19 ½ years as a sales clerk. Alice was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church since July 1, 1971. She was also a member of the Altar Society and held several offices within the organization and was currently the Assistant Treasurer. The other organizations she was a member of was the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court Annunciation No. 1962, KJZT, American Legion and volunteered each year with the Veteran’s Day poppy sales. Alice was very active in her church and sang in the Sacred Heart church choir, was a presenter of Lifeoffertory gifts, led church rosaries, was on the church cleaning detail and helped with funeral luncheons. Alice was also a volunteer at AMEN and worked the annual fundraiser for the La Grange Volunteer Fire Department. Alice’s many hobbies included yard work, gardening, cooking, baking and reading. She is survived by two sons: Richard Chernosky of La Grange and Ronnie Chernosky of Fayetteville; and daughter, Lisa Schlemmer and husband, Douglas, of La Grange; brother-in-law, Emil Poncik of Stafford; two grandchildren: Jordan Chernosky of Austin and Jakob Schlemmer of La Grange; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and her special companion, Little Bit. She was preceded in death by parents; husband, Walter H. Chernosky and sister, Georgie Ann Poncik. Visitation was held on Monday, May 11, 2015 from 12 to 6:30 p.m. at Koenig & Strickland Funeral Home in La Grange. Family received friends from 4 to 6:30 p.m. A rosary was recited at 6:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, located at 539 E. Pearl St. in La Grange, at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 12, 2015. Burial will follow at La Grange City Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Altar Society, 539 E.
