The Community Mourns Passing of Nelda Barton

Nelda Barton, a beloved member of the family that has owned the Fayette County Record since 1976, died at her home in La Grange Tuesday.The Fayette County Record will be closed Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in honor of her memory and so that employees can attend her funeral, which is set for 11 a.m. Friday at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in La Grange. Barton’s husband, the late Richard L. Barton, was thelongtime editor and publisher of the Record prior to his death in 2003. Nelda remained a fixture at the newspaper, which she continued to visit on an almost daily basis until recently.
