Serena Samantha (Gates) Glenn
Serena Samantha (Gates) Glenn, 95, of La Grange, died Wednesday, June 17, 2015. Serena was born in Riviera, Texas on Jan. 17, 1920, the daughter of James Isaac and Hallie Mae (Kingery) Gates. She married Woodrow W. Glenn on Dec. 31, 1939 in Corpus Christi. They were married 54 years until Woody’s death in 1993. Serena was a homemaker who loved cooking, quilting, oil painting, needle work, gardening, reading and ceramics. She cherished spending time with her family and she was also very active in her church. She is survived by two sons: James W. Glenn and wife, Carolyn, of Blanco and Brent Glenn and wife, Gale, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two daughters: Janice Jones and husband, Billy, of Huntsville and Sandra Bedinghaus of La Grange; seven grandchildren: Brian Glenn and wife, Kerri, David Jones and wife, Jennifer, Autumn White and husband, Steven, Brandon Jones and wife, Ari, Kimberly Newton and husband, Mike, Cole Glenn, and Rachel Rygiel and husband, Alex; 14 great-grandchildren: Kolby Glenn, Halli Glenn, Winter White, December White, Noel White, Karis Jones, Ethan Jones, Asher Jones, Piper Jones, Zoe Jones, Noah Jones, Larke Jones, Benjamin Newton and Jill Newton; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; andeleven brothers and sisters. In 1997, Serena married Norman Cleveland, who died in 2001. His three daughters, and their families, continued to visit with Serena over the years. They are Sherry and Paul Workman, Jill and Phil McCurdy, and Connie and David Hall. Memorial Services will be held at First Baptist Church, 121 S. College St. in La Grange, at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 28, 2015. Burial will be held at 1 p.m.on Monday, June 29, 2015 at Seaside Cemetery, 4357 Ocean Drive in Corpus Christi. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of La Grange, P.O. Box 97, La Grange, Texas 78945.
