When Sheldon Lippman and his baby boomer classmates were growing up in Schulenburg, many of their fathers were members of the VFW or Legion. Yet, these veterans had little to say about World War II at home. “My father, Leslie Lippman, did not talk much about his experiences during the war. We knew he had been drafted in 1942 when he was 27 years old, despite having poor eyesight and flat feet,” says Sheldon, a writer/editor for the World Bank in Washington, D.C.
