Funeral services for Benjamin Franklin “Bennie” Vacek, 91, longtime resident of San Angelo, will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 5, 2015 in the Johnson’s Funeral Chapel with  Chaplain Kevin McSpadden officiating. Interment will follow in the Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens of San Angelo with grandsons, Clint Brown, Cody Renfro,  Jonathan Runion and Andrew Runion serving as pallbearers. A time of visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 4, 2015 at Johnson’s Funeral Home. Bennie was born to the late, Emil A. and Matilda Horak Vacek on Saturday, April 5, 1924 in Schulenburg. He died peacefully on Saturday, Aug. 29, 2015 in San Angelo.  Bennie married the love of his life, Marcella E. Nicholds on Aug. 27, 1945 in Weimer. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus for a number of years. Bennie retired after 35 years with Holsum Bakery. He was known to many as “Bennie the Breadman”. He enjoyed Polka music, dancing, fishing and playing the slot machines in Las Vegas. “Poppy”, as his grandchildren call him, knew no strangers and everyone that met him soon loved him. He will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved him. Bennie was preceded in death  by his parents; wife; and nine siblings. Survivors include his children and their spouses, Delores Brown and Robert, Cindy Renfro and Eddy, Albert Vacek and Jamie, Donald Vacek, Bridgett Runion and Tim, and Nancy Hogue and  Jeff; grandchildren, Allison Hohenberger, Clint Brown, Cody Renfro, Jonathan and Andrew Runion, Aaron, Lindsay and James Vacek, and Abigail and Lauren Hogue; great-grandchildren,  Heston, Hudson, Addison Hohenberger, Brendan Brown, Gage and Brynlee Renfro, Cheney Rae Runion, and one on the way; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Johnson’s Funeral Home in San Angelo is in charge of arrangements.
