If Mary Grace McClanahan of Muldoon had not left Fayette County to search for work, she might never have met a handsome World War II veteran named Willie Zigal from nearby West Point. “After I had graduated from Flatonia High School at the end of May 1945, I needed a job. Since there was no work to be had in Muldoon and I didn’t know the meaning of the word ‘college,’ I went to live in Houston where we had kin,” Mary recalls.
