Emil B. Schaefer,
Emil B. Schaefer, Jr. died Sunday, Oct. 11, 2015 at his home in Austin. Born in La Grange Sept. 24, 1921, Emil loved farm life, hunting and fishing in nearby Buckners Creek, which he spoke of often. He served in World War II as a Merchant Marine and later joined the Army. After the war he moved to Austin and worked for a cabinet making shop. In 1948 he married his wife of 66 years, Ella Mitschke Schaefer. He finished training in television repair and worked for Calcasieu and later Bettis Appliance. In 1954 he and Ella bought a new home in north Austin, adopted two boys, Randy and Ronnie, and lived there for the rest of their lives. Both were long term members of St. Paul Lutheran Church. He is preceded in death by his parents, Emil B. Schaefer, Sr. and Clara Fiedler Schaefer, his wife Ella Mitschke Schaefer,and eight brothers and sisters; Leonora Rauch, Werner Schaefer, Walter Schaefer, Elsie Hackebeil, Frank Schaefer, Dorothy Metzger, Pauline Taylor and Wesley Schaefer. He is survived by his two sons, Ronnie and Randy Schaefer. Visitation will be at the family home in Austin, Friday, Oct. 16 from 4 to 7 p.m. Services will be Saturday, Oct. 17 at 11 a.m., viewing at 10 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings. Interment will follow at Giddings City Cemetery.
