Memories From the WWII Front Lines

I was a junior at La Grange High School when the United States entered World War II. As the crow flies, Camp Swift at Bastrop wasn’t far away, so we could hear the cannons rumbling during the artillery training exercises. Army convoys were constantly moving north and south on Hwy. 77, which ran through our farm. That road wasn’t paved in those days. Randolph Army Air Corps Base in San Antonio sent training flights to Austin and on to Houston on a flight plan that went right over our home.
