Monroe Milton Dunk

Monroe Milton Dunk, 78, of La Grange, died Monday, Feb. 8, 2016. Monroe was born in Winchester on  Feb. 13, 1937, the son of Robert A. Dunk and Ida (Pietsch) Dunk. He married Annie Lee Melcher on June 8, 1957 in La Grange. Monroe owned and operated Monroe’s Mobil Station on Travis Street in La Grange for 32 years (from 1957 to 1989). He enjoyed hunting, fishing, going to the beach, maintaining yards for others and attending sports events which his children and grandchildren participated in. Monroe will forever be remembered by his treasured grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is survived by daughter, Cindy Gerdes and husband, Gardan, of Burnet; son, Billy Dunk and wife, Marci, of Flatonia; daughter, Phyllis Proske and husband, Randy, of La Grange; son-in-law, Charles Schulz of La Grange; sister, Iola Perkins and husband, Lee, of Winchester; brother, Delbert “Herb” Dunk of La Grange; two brothers-in-law: James Freudenberg of La Grange and Don Fitzgerald of Frankston; eleven grandchildren: Justin Dunk and wife, Krystal, of Marble Falls; Cameron Dunk and wife, Bonnie, of San Marcos; Galen Dunk and wife, Amy, of Houston; Kayla Dunk of Austin; Leanna Gray and husband, Aaron, of San Marcos; Casey Harbers and husband, Curt, of La Grange; Jenna Proske of Austin; Stephanie Proske of San Antonio; Trenton Proske of Houston; Will Gerdes of San Marcos; six great grandchildren: Payton Monroe Dunk, Preston John Dunk, Carson William Dunk, Ella Grace Dunk, Brooks William Dunk and Cade Christopher Harbers; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Annie Lee, of 31 years; daughter, Pamela Schulz; sister, Ida Rena Dunk; four brothers and sisters-in-law: Robert and Claren Dunk; Wilfred and Anita Dunk; Leonard & Leona Dunk; Belmont and Barbara Dunk; four sisters-in-law: Ethel Melcher, Nettie Mae Freudenberg, Audrey Fitzgerald and Geraldine Dunk. Visitation was held on Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2016 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Koenig & Strickland Funeral Home. Family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral services were held at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in La Grange at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 11, 2016. Burial will follow at La Grange City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church Renovation Fund, P.O.
