Gladys Von Minden

Gladys Von Minden was born on July 29, 1928 on her parents’ farm at Greens Creek near Giddings, the eighth of ten children of Hermann Lehmann and Emma (Pietsch) Lehmann. She was baptized in Bethany Lutheran Church of Greens Creek. On April 26, 1942, she was confirmed in the same church by Rev. Paul C. Eifert with Psalm 27:1 as her confirmation Bible verse: “The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” Gladys was united in marriage to Werner William Von Minden on July 11, 1948 in Bethany Lutheran Church of Greens Creek. Their marriage of 49 years was blessed with two children. Gladys is remembered and admired for her unwavering Christian faith and for her love and dedication to her family. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of La Grange, now Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church and Preschool. Her love and support of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were tireless. Gladys was an excellenthomemaker, and she particularly enjoyed baking and taking care of her potted plants, her yard, and her vegetable garden. Through the years, she worked as a retail sales clerk in various businesses on the La Grange square, including Klein’s Clothing Store (1960-1973), Gold Bond Gift Redemption Center (1974-1983), Schmidt’s Jewelry Store and Hallmark Store (1983-1984), and Heritage Hallmark (1984-2008). Since December 2012, Gladys resided in Victoria at White Oaks Personal Care Home where she received loving care from Donna Howell and her staff. On Friday, April 22, 2016, our dear Lord called Gladys Von Minden home at the age of 87 years. Gladys Von Minden is survived by one son and daughter-in- law: Ronald and Marie Von Minden of La Grange; by one daughter and son-in-law: Carol and Ricky Lenz of Victoria; by three grandchildren: Wendy Von Minden Becka (Donnie), Erica Von Minden Dudley (Robert III), and Joseph Lenz; by three great-grandchildren: Madison Becka, Ryan Becka, and Robert Dudley IV; by one brother and sister-in-law: Herman and Sharon Lehmann of Plano; by two sisters-in-law: Jean Lehmann of Dallas and Lucille Lehmann of Conroe; and by numerous nephews and nieces. Preceding Gladys in death were: her husband, Werner; four sisters: Hulda Lehmann, Ruby (Lehmann) Mueller, Wanda (Lehmann) Kappler, and Erna (Lehmann) Hemmann; four brothers: August Lehmann, Martin Lehmann, Anton Lehmann, and Edwin Lehmann; and her parents. Visitation will be held Friday, April 29, 2016, at Fayette Memorial Funeral Home in La Grange with family present from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, 800 N. Franklin St. in La Grange. Serving as pallbearers for Gladys are Joseph Lenz, Ryan Becka, Donnie Becka, James Lehmann, Fred Lehmann, and Wayne Kappler. Burial will be in the La Grange City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church Preschool, or the charity of donor’s choice. Fayette Memorial Funeral Home in La Grange is in charge of arrangements..
