Lenore Hattie Bell (Krause) Wells

Lenore Hattie Bell (Krause) Wells, of Wilson, died May 5, 2016 at Library of Legacies in Slaton. Lenore was born on May 16, 1926, the daughter of Alfred August Krause and Elsa Frank Krause in Wilson. She was baptized on April 10, 1927 by Pastor Richter at Philadelphia Lutheran Church in Swiss Alp and confirmed May 26, 1940 by Pastor Herber at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wilson. Lenore graduated from Wilson High School in May 1943 then graduated from Draughon’s Business College in Lubbock. Lenore married Charles Edward Cotton Wells on Jan. 8, 1949, in Lubbock by Minister McCarty. Together, she and Cotton made their first home in Lubbock where she worked for Kennedy-Edwards Company. Several years later they moved to Muleshoe where Lenore worked for H&R Block and Cotton farmed. After retirement, Lenore and Cotton moved back to Wilson where they were members of the First Baptist Church in Wilson. She served faithfully at the church as their Financial Secretary for many years. Lenore particularly enjoyed taking care of her garden, flowers and yard. Lenore is survived by nieces, Jane Heselmeyer Hammitt of Austin; Karen Beth Wells Knox and husband Jerry of Lubbock; Dianne Wells Brown and husband Ken of Tequesta, Fla.; Marsha Wells Hamlin and husband David of Lubbock; Brenda Wells of Lubbock; one nephew, Lee Allan Heselmeyer and wife Cindy of Giddings. Special thanks to Darlene Jones, Pat Cates and the staff of Library of Legacies for all their love and care given to Lenore. She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years Charles “Cotton” Wells; parents Alfred and Elsa Krause; and sister, Verta Lee Krause Heselmeyer Reeves. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, May 9, 2016, at the First Baptist Church, 1403 13th Street, in Wilson. Visitation was held at First Baptist Church prior to the service from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Burial followed at Green Memorial Park Cemetery in Wilson. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church, 1403 13th St. in Wilson.
