Rita Frances King Tinsley, 92, died Friday, May 13, at Jefferson Place Assisted Living in La Grange. Born on July 9, 1923, to Tac Brewer King and Martha Catherine (Cook) King, she spent her early years in Mertens, Texas. At Mertens High School her love for women’s basketball began. She was an avid Baylor Lady Bears fan and never missed a televised game in her room at Jefferson Place. She married Richard H. Tinsley in 1946; they were married for 66 years until his death in 2012. The family is grateful that they are together again. Rita is survived by her daughter Diane Tinsley of Fayetteville, her beloved grandsons Warren H. Prescott and wife Courtney of Fort Worth and Mark T. Prescott and his wife Nancy Kate of Houston. Also surviving are her great grand children Tinsley Elizabeth Prescott, Hunter Hale Prescott, James Willeford Prescott, Frances Ann Prescott, and Margaret Clare Prescott. Both Tinsley and Frances were named after their great-grandmother. Services were held at Oak Crest Funeral Home in Waco on Monday, May 16, with visitation beginning at 12:30 p.m. followed by a 1 p.m. service officiated by her nephew Bill Tinsley of Waco. Burial followed in Oakwood Cemetery in Waco.
