Vernon Eugene Zimmermann
Vernon Eugene Zimmermann of Schulenburg died at home in the presence of his family on May 7, 2016. He was born July 28, 1941 to Adela (Otto) and Emil Zimmermann, who preceded him in death. Vernon grew up in Karnes City, Texas and graduated from Karnes City High School in 1960. He served in the United States Army and was a Vietnam veteran. He was awarded the Purple Heart in 2015. He and his family moved to Schulenburg in 1970. He taught auto mechanics at Schulenburg High School. He worked for American Muffler and opened muffler shops all over the United States. In 1977 he opened Zimmermann’s Garage where he served the community until he retired in 2013. Vernon was ordained a deacon at First Baptist Church in Schulenburg and served there faithfully. Vernon is survived by his wife of 45 years Fawn Chapman Zimmermann; his four sons and families, Vernon and Laura Zimmermann, Zachary (Kemra) and Jenna; Spence Zimmermann and daughter Randi; James and Constance Zimmermann, Beckett, Adler and Maebry; Chad and Jamie Zimmermann, Noah and Roman. He is also survived by his sisters, Maxine Tudyk and Gloria Lieke and husband R.W. and his brothers-in-law, Jeff Chapman and wife Diana, and David Chapman. Funeral services were held from First Baptist Church of Schulenburg on Tuesday, May 10 at 2 p.m. Interment followed in Andrews Chapel Cemetery in Lavaca County. The family requests donations be made to First Baptist Church, Schulenburg, or a charity of one’s choice.
